TULIP

It was suggested to me that putting the teachings on the Doctrines of Grace (the TULIP) at one place where they can be linked to would be very helpful. If that is the case, the issues involved here are extremely important. Where we stand on these things says much about our view of God and how Sovereign He is, our view of man and how ‘free’ he is, our understanding of salvation, of God’s intention in the cross, the work of atonement, what exactly regeneration is and how it happens, as well as how to have true assurance. What we understand by means of the TULIP also greatly impacts our worship and our view of missions.

Somehow, the five points of Calvinism (or what are also called the Doctrines of Grace) came to be summarized (in the English language at least) under the acronym TULIP.

T – Total depravity
U – Unconditional election
L – Limited atonement
I – Irresistible grace
P – Perseverance of the saints

As I mention in the teaching that follows, these terms are probably not the best ones to use to describe the Bible’s teaching, but they are the way the TULIP has been understood historically.

Here then are the five teachings, each lasting approximately one hour:

Hour 1. The “T” in the TULIP, “TOTAL DEPRAVITY”:

Hour 2. The “U” in the TULIP, “UNCONDITIONAL ELECTION”

Hour 3. The “L” in the TULIP, “LIMITED ATONEMENT”

Hour 4. The “I” in the TULIP, “IRRESISTIBLE GRACE”

Hour 5. The “P” in the TULIP – “THE PERSEVERANCE (PRESERVATION) OF THE SAINTS”:
