An Historic Door for the Gospel

Over the last two weeks, I have had the privilege of guest hosting Dr. James White’s dividing line broadcasts while he has been on a ministry trip to South Africa (the 4th of these shows at 2 p.m. later today). Dr. White shares here about one of the events on his trip and it is TRULY HISTORIC! God has opened a very significant and unexpected door for the gospel and it thrills my heart. Please continue to pray for Dr. James White and Alpha and Omega Ministries.

DrWhite-DurbanSAJames White writes:

“As I wait here in London for my flight back to Phoenix, I stood once again in a masjid—not just a room associated with a mosque, but in the masjid itself, and had the unfettered freedom to proclaim the full truth of God. If I can figure out how best to link an audio file, I might have time before my flight to post a portion of my presentation on John’s Christology, but I can tell you this: I had the opportunity (indeed, the necessity, given Yusuf’s presentation), of delving into John 1:1-18, John 8:24, 58, 13:19, 18:5-6 (the I Am sayings of Jesus) and of course John 20:28. That is certainly not unusual—but to do so in a historic masjid, the first Christian to speak there—that’s amazing. But now add in the real kicker: I was standing where Ahmed Deedat often stood in denial of those very truths. That’s what I am still processing. Only God could open a door like that, give an opportunity like that. I thank Him for using means (specifically, Rudolph, Adrian, etc. there in South Africa), but they will tell you the same thing: the Lord has granted favor to our interactions with our Muslim friends in South Africa. No doubt about it.”

My Sad Robin Williams Story

Robin_WilliamsMy publisher, Michael Gaydosh writes:

Some years ago I received a call from someone seeking help picking out books for a man she was witnessing to. After a few minutes she informed me that the man she had in mind was none other than ROBIN WILLIAMS. After giving her suggestions she let me know that she and her husband were seeing some genuine interest in him. In fact, when he was in NY he would attend Redeemer Presbyterian Church and in Toronto a Reformed Baptist Church. She told me he liked those churches because they both treated him like a sinner and not a celebrity. I asked her if I could include a copy of the book A PASTOR’S SKETCHES by Ichabod Spencer along with a personal note from me. This was done and all the books were shipped to this lady.

About three weeks later Susie and I were in CT with Rachel and her family when the phone rang. It was Robin Williams calling to thank me for the book and for the note I included. He was very humble, very appreciative and very different from the man I had always seen and heard on TV and in the movies. We talked perhaps five minutes and I told him more about the book I had sent him. He had already begun to read it and he showed a sincere interest in spiritual things. The call ended and I never heard from him again but the woman called me some six months later to say that Robin had cut off his relationship with them because his wife (I believe that was # 2) demanded him to do so. Next thing I knew he put himself into rehab, and then that marriage ended. The Lord alone knows THE REST OF THE STORY, but all of that came back to me this week when I heard of his tragic death at his own hands.

So sad, so very sad.

UK and Ukraine) and he has asked me to host his popular live internet program called “the Dividing Line” today (4 p.m. MST; 6 p.m. EST at www.aomin.org). Actually, I may well be hosting multiple shows while James is away. Obviously, this is very much a HUGE honor and privilege.

Please be praying for James on his ministry travels; and for me, that the Lord will grant to me boldness and precision in proclaiming the word of God on the broadcast.

Reformation Sunday

2013

11:00 A.M.

In many Churches, both historically and even in our own day, the last Sunday in October has been known as Reformation Sunday. It is tied to October 31, 1517 when Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the door of the Church in Wittenberg, Germany, sparking the Protestant Reformation. As the Bible was studied in its original languages, the Gospel of justification by Grace alone, through Faith alone in Christ alone was soon re-discovered and then proclaimed, and the rest, as they say, is history.

One of the slogans that emerged during this time was “Sola Scriptura,” the Latin phrase for “Scripture alone.” While the opinions and writings of the gifted leaders in the Church, and even the Confessions of the Churches are to be given their due respect, the Bible alone is the word of God, and therefore is the sole infallible rule of faith for the people of God. It alone has the authority to bind the conscience.

This year, at King’s Church, we will build our faith together as we study this vital theme of “Why we trust the Bible.” We will enjoy six short teaching sessions (each 23 minutes in length) with Dr. Stephen Nichols, who is a very gifted communicator:

WHY12DC_200x1000(1) Revelation: Where Would We Be Without It?
(2) The Authority of Scripture, Part 1: The Doctrine of Inspiration
(3) The Authority of Scripture, Part 2: The Doctrine of Inerrancy
(4) Why Sixty-Six Books? The Development of the Canon
(5) Why So Many Interpretations? The Clarity of Scripture& Interpretation
(6) Scripture for Life: The Sufficiency of Scripture

Our Reformation Sunday service will start at the normal time of 11:00 a.m. and we will seek to finish our time together around 3:30 p.m. We will share a pot luck meal and enjoy a rich time of fellowship.

I hope you will plan to join us for this special day.
