Can salvation ever be lost? The Bible presents us with severe warnings concerning the consequences of apostasy. How do we rightly understand these warnings?

Mr. Samson,
As I was listening to your sermon, an old question of mine arose; how does one determine what are the clear verses of scripture? Are there specific criteria used, are there verses that are just agreed upon as being clearer than others, etc.? Hermeneutics can be very contentious and difficult, so any information/guidance would be helpful. Thank you.
The clear passages are determined by applying the normal rules of interpretation (as explained elsewhere) and especially by asking the question “am I sure this is what the text says, or am I guilty of reading into the text something not actually stated by the text – in other words, am I guilty of making a possible interpretation a necessary one in my mind?
If having done this, I am still convinced of my interpretation, it is fair to assess the verse or passage as being in the clear category.
