Robert Sungenis (Roman Catholic) vs James White (Protestant):
2 thoughts on “Debate: Is the Roman Catholic Mass a Propitiatory Sacrifice?”
As I listen to Sungenis openning argument about the “sacrifices” in heaven, I wonder how it is not supportive of the re-presentation of Christ to the Father during the Mass? The fact that it is plural adds weight to his argument. As a Reformed believer, I accept White’s argument, especially during the question and answer time, but he does not appear to address the plural nature of “sacrifices” in Hebs 9:24. The propitiatory nature of the Mass has troubled me for some time, and I would like to be able to understand this verse from a more Reformed perspective. I have not been able to find any Reformed commentary, that I have, that deals specifically with this verse. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
After listening to the debate again, I found White’s response to “sacrifices” and understand a little more of what he is saying. I believe that he successfully rebutted Sungenis’ contention concerning the Mass.
