Roger Olson doesn’t like to debate, and he doesn’t like to defend his assertions, either, but that did not stop Dr. James White from reviewing his book “Against Calvinism.” A very troubling aspect of Olson’s book is that he admits that even if God revealed Himself to be and to act, as Calvinists say He does, Olson would refuse to worship Him. That’s an amazing thing for a professed Christian to say.
Here is Dr. White’s review.
Yes, I would agree with Christina (above). The more I listened, the more it made my blood boil – the arrogance of Olson and his feeble diatribe against what he perceives to be a “moral monster” makes me fear for his soul. Truly disturbing. Olson seemingly has very little interest in dealing with Scripture but bases his attacks on philosophical argumentation. Thanks to James White though for very thorough BIBLICAL answers to many important questions, and to you John for posting this. Keep up the good work.
Enlightening…Calvinists who think no else takes the Bible seriously. A novelty to be sure. Olson’s assertions aren’t unbiblical…they just aren’t predicated on reading all the Bible through the lens of a Calvinistic interpretation of Romans 9. As it seems you missed it, the thrust of Olson’s argument is precisely about what the Bible says about God; namely, that Calvinist egregiously undermines every single biblical passage that speaks about God being just, good, or loving by emptying these terms of all meaning. You don’t have to agree with it, but spare us the diatribe about it being unbiblical and fearing for Olson’s soul.
Austin,
Olson crossed a line. To say that even if God revealed Himself to be and to act, as Calvinists say He does, Olson would refuse to worship Him, does indeed give me reason for concern. Even as a former Arminian myself, I would never have said such a thing.
