No… don’t do it!

Wanting to relax last night by watching a good clean, “This classic children’s tale tells the story of a young farmer’s son who inherits a strange talking cat with magical boots. With his cunning wit, Puss helps him win the heart of the Princess while battling devious suitors that are after the throne. Please note: This is NOT the same version as the Antonio Banderas film coming to theaters in November. Rated G by the Motion Picture Association of America.”

But do most people read all that? When others might be standing behind them at the redbox, patiently waiting in line to rent, and with many other movies to look at to see if there might be something worthwhile to watch – does everyone read through to the end to see that it is NOT the version they think it is? I dont think so.

So a few of us sat down to start watching the DVD… well, I usually don’t review movies here, but I feel I need to make an exception in this case. For the mental health and welfare of humanity I must speak up and make the following heartfelt and sincere plea – DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES RENT THIS MOVIE. There is nothing redeemable about it.. nothing good I can say about it. It is BAD! VERY BAD! Actually, it was a lot worse than that!

I went to the redbox website to issue a complaint and soon realised that I did not need to. After reading this random selection of comments below, I think you might agree that others have made their feelings known pretty well:
This movie is hideous. My kids hate me now.

WORST MOVIE EVER!!! Watched 5 mins and had to turn it off. My fault for not reading the info and thinking it was the Puss from Shrek. Regardless, it was not even entertaining – William Shatner’s voice for Puss was horrible – sounded like a dying cat. NOT worth the $1.08 – DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!

This is so bad I kept it two nights to spare anybody else the trauma of renting it. Bad, bad, bad! No stars.

I just learned a lesson. Always read the reviews before renting. I assumed the voice of the cat would be the same as it was on shrek. I was wrong. William Shatner murdered the voice of the cat. This movie wasn’t worth the dvd it was put on. Not worth the half star I gave it.

I can’t believe William Shatner was part of this scam. Many like me thought this was the Puss in Boots from Shriek and I let my kids watch. My daughter said it was horrible. Shame on you William Shatner, shame on you.

Biggest movie-renting mistake of our lives! Right up there with Daniel the Dolphin. We also made the mistake of not reading the details – assumed this movie was related to Shrek. Wow, we got duped. We all need therapy after that horrible experience. 0 stars should be a rating option for this one.

William Shatner should be ashamed of himself. He should never be allowed near a movie again!!!! The voice of the cat was the most annoying I have ever heard. He suckered us into believing this was the same Puss n Boots as the one from Shreck. WRONG!!!! This movie deserves a minus 10 stars!!!

This movie was AWFUL!! NOT for little ones. I thought it was Puss from Shrek, as well. It’s NOT. Very dark characters. I don’t believe that this movie should be rated G, too scary looking

Always, always, always read the reviews first!

This movie was horrible! I can’t believe I actually wasted a dollar on this moive. This movie is not kid appropriate in anyway. Shame on me for not paying better attention to the reviews. I tried to think it would get better but it just got painfully worse. My daughter lost interest in a minute.

WORST MOVIE EVER!!! I wish I had read the reviews. This is not the Shrek character. Horrible, horrible voice work by Captain Kirk. Oh God Make it STOP! I had to leave the room, kids got up a few minutes later and said, “hey dad, this is a bad movie”. DO NOT RENT!!!!

I dont usually write reviews, but I had to take the time to warn people about this one! DO NOT RENT…THIS IS NOT THE SHREK CAT! It is absolutely awful. My children say “This is weird”? BE WARNED-DO NOT RENT!

“Disturbing” is the word my children used while watching this “knock off” to the real Puss ‘N Boots Movie. Shame on me, I should have known the real movie was not released yet. Save your dollar, it is not even worth that. The music is creepy and will scare little children, beware.

This creepy movie made my hard to scare 5 year old cry! It’s a very poorly done movie with bad characters. First review I’ve ever wrote I disliked this so much. Really wish I would have read sooner that it wasn’t the dreamworks version, misleading.

We set up a slumber party sleepover and chose this movie – awful! We watched about 10 minutes of it and turned it off to watch normal tv. Not worth a penny!

Super stinky movie. They trick you by making you think this is the Dreamworks version. This cat’s voice is the most annoying thing ever… the animation is horrendous.. very low budget. My six year old asked us to turn it off and watch another movie.

Um… I got scammed out of a dollar! I thought this was the Shrek version. I wish I could give this movie negative stars. Didn’t even get through the first five minutes.

Weird, weird weird, my kids were super bored. Looks more like an animation experiment than a movie.

this is what they would use to torment captured terrorist with to make them talk. this is the lowest rating they would let me give but i would give it negative 10 stars if i could

What a joke! Truly an unwatchable film. Shatners completely creepy cat voice ruined the movie from the get go, however, character after character added to the movies unbelivable creepyness! Worst movie ever! Nothing cute, sweet or enjoyable at all,,,,,not one moment!

Awful… could not watch more than 15 mins.. my 10 year old begged me to turn it off… Poor Captain Kirk, you have fallen so low…

You will not like this movie because it won’t be what you are expecting. It is NOT the cat from Shrek, and the movie is very, very bad. Please, for your own sake, take everyone’s advice and don’t rent this movie. Redbox, please do everyone a favor and remove it from your machines.

I’d pay to never have to see it again! I think I’d rather gouge my eyes out.

Definitely not the Shrek Puss in Boots. The voices are awful and it was basically the creepiest worst thing ever!

This movie is even worse then the other reviews said it was. Never made it past the first 5 minutes.

AWFUL! The disclaimer that this movie is NOT the Shrek Puss In Boots needs to be ALOT bigger!!! It’s weird and creepy and poorly done. So much so that we shut off the movie and quit watching it. I would have given NO stars if possible.

Don’t watch this movie if you are feeling in any way suicidal. It just might send you over the edge. Its that bad.

  1. Much to my surprise, the cat from Shrek was abducted and replaced by this enormous pile of CRAP! I too spent $1.07 to rent what I thought was the REAL Puss in Boots, only to be subjected to so lame… no, perhaps reprehensible movie with William Shatner????!!! What a crock of soiled kitty litter! I agree with John, run like hell, do NOT rent, buy or in any way watch this movie. Gives Ishtar a run for the worst movie ever made. Can’t wait for the REAL Puss in Boots release next month.

  2. Ughhh! I feel into this trap too. I don’t pay attention to release dates nor do I read the fine print when it comes to something I assume is coming from Dreamworks. I wonder just how many people gave their money to these guys. I can only blame myself but it sure would have been less likely if the title and release date weren’t so friggin similar. Thank God I used a free promo code.

  3. I agree with the therapy comment. After watching just 3 minutes of this movie I felt literally sick to my stomach and felt we would all have nightmares. Gave me a headache just to try and make sense over how someone could make something so absolutely horrid, and put it out there thinking people would actually want to watch it??? Is Mr. William insane? Did he HEAR himself on the replay??? Akkkk! Bluh, bluh, bluh, I need to go wash my eyes with bleech water, and pray for memory loss.

  4. Ok so my gf and i had drivin around to 5 different Redboxes untill we finally found “Puss N’ Boots” available to rent. It seemed to good to be true, seeing as it was apparently so popular. Well it was. Biggest let down since finding out Santa isn’t real. If you dont want to cry, please stay away from shatner’s obvious scam-planned version. Thank you

  5. horrible movie …just not appropriate….very misleading….my husband and I wouldnt let our children watch it and we were all sad and disappointed. It is horrible to trick people like this ….we thought it was the shreck cat and we were shocked at how weird and different this one was…..DO NOT ADVISE TO WATCH…bar seen ….. seductive…sexual in nature cat with attire and body of pamela anderson…. this movie should come with a warning….nothing like the puss n boots in the movie shreck….

  6. Terrible! I too thought it was the children’s tale. My first red flag was William Shatner’s intro….he’s not what I would consider “wholesome” family entertainment of late. Right from the start the “Queen” is drunk and her “King” is passed out. Next scene is the princess dancing in a way that isn’t appropriate for young kids. If you rented it just go ahead and waste your money and turn it back in.

  7. If you didn’t watch it past the first 5 minutes, how can you know it was bad?

Personally, I laughed a lot. I enjoyed the music. A lot of it was very funny. I thought some of it (a lot of it) was American Jewish Shtick and I love that. My opinion is that it is a harmless and enjoyable entertainment. I would give it 3 stars.

I don’t see how you can dismiss something so absolutely with out seeing it. It was not Shrek. I love Shrek too!

  8. I agree with everybody else, worst movie ever!!! We are children writing this review and we watched it on new year’s eve and it ruined our night. Until we read the reviews, glad people agree with us!!! The comment about how this movie should be used to torment capture terrorists, very funny!! But still, bad scam, bad movie 🙁

  9. this movie is so creepy and disturbing. for starters, what was with the passed out king and the drunk queen? i thought well this is weird but i’ll just wait till puss n boots is on. then the princess with the kim kardashian butt with the bad dancing and ear piercing singing voice. and that really creepy joker!!! my mom said well at least puss n boots is cute cause these people are creepy! then puss was! we were mortified for days and got our 4 dollars back! FOUR DOLLARS! WHAT A DISTURBING MOVIE!

  10. worst movie ever rated g who rates these things not approprate for children william shatner should recall all puss n boots movies and burn them. i would not recommend this movie to anyone from the ages 1 day to 110yrs

  11. OK. Well, I learned that it is a good idea to read things. Like… Instructions, contracts, synopsis… On the one hand I felt that it was exactly what the synopsis described. But then I watched it for pennies on Netflix and they have a more detailed coverage than what one might behold on the door of a coke machine turned movie dispenser. Admittedly this is not a movie for most folks here in the states, however it is interesting and its approach to a number of situations is classic Grimm (as in the fairy tales by the Grimm Brothers). The problem that we face is that too many macabre and angular tales have had their wild hairs plucked and their pimples popped by Disney so that everything is pretty. The people are pretty, the story is pretty, it is all just … pretty sickening sweet. I swear that Disney could make a children’s movie out of Rigoletto and everything would be all smiles in the end. Oh, Rigoletto? That is an opera. You folks prolly wouldn’t like it … un-pretty people are in it and un-pretty things happen and well, that just isn’t … well … Pretty.

  12. This movie has been played around 20 times in my house! Don’t get me wrong, it is a bit weird, but my son just loves it! As an adult I just sit back and laugh at how stupid most of it is. Not a single one of my 4 boys got nightmares from it, but I read some kids got scared by the characters. This is not an American made movie, so it has a different take of things. If you want all happy, lovey dove Disney stuff then this is probably not for you, however, if you can appreciate other countries versions of things then give it a try. I can probably tell you the whole movie line for line now with as much as my boy likes it. lol

  13. This was the worse movie I think I have ever seen. I, too, thought it was the “real” Puss N Boots, we started to watch it and with the scary Chamberlain and the drunk, slurring queen my husband and I turned it off and moved onto a different movie. I did watch the rest after everyone was in bed. The qualities that it portrayed was lying, lust, greed, murder and torture. Great makings of a childrens movie. I am disgusted.

  14. Wow! Talk about misleading. Have any of these outraged flamers bothered to remember that the actual venue of this website describes GRACE. It sure is easy to fall into the crowd and forget that almost none of these comments practice EFFECTUAL GRACE. Shame on you.

  15. While DreamWorks had already just destroyed and turned the Puss in Boots character into a horrible Zorro wannabe, but also in this one and not the Shrek one – it is perhaps poor ol’ William Shatner’s worst movie ever in this ungreat adapation of the Puss in Boots legend!

  16. Have you seen the movie Ric? Grace does not mean the abandonment of discernment. It is the worst movie I have ever seen and it is not shameful to inform others that this is the case.

  17. We are describing a movie, we are explaining the characteristics, the lack of values. Tell me where Grace is in misleading others or not giving a real account. When you have children watching a show with you that you believe to be something completely different, you bet I will call them out on it. My children, not only would have had bad dreams but they would also be led to believe that lying to impress someone is okay. I don’t think so.

  18. Are you mentally impaired? That is the only way anyone could possibly enjoy this movie. It was horrible, I knew it wasn’t the Shrek version but decided to give it a try anyway, and I watches over half of it just to see if it got better. It didn’t. This is the most horrible, pathetic excuse for a “movie” I have ever seen. And William Shatner should be horribly ashamed of himself, there is no excuse for such atrocity. I can’t rant enough about how absolutely disgusting this movie is.

  19. This movie is pretty crappy but not soo bad like all these ppl say…I mean it’s pretty bad, not traumatizing. Still I wouldn’t recommend it….1 star
